Description

At Mogölsmyren you can experience untouched wilderness where silence prevails. The area is part of a larger bog complex, Ringmossen, and contributes water to Fylleån in the west.

Mogölsmyren is a typical West Swedish raised bog. The central part is raised and then slopes down towards the edges. Where the bog turns into solid ground, a narrow strip is formed where water from both the bog and the surrounding area collects. This marshland is called lagg and is wetter than the bog itself. During dry summers, Mogölsmyren acts as a water reservoir for Fylleån.

The color changes of the bog

The ground is dominated by various white mosses that change in red and green. Common bog plants are represented, such as willowherb, cranberry, cloudberry and pine. The bog is also home to the marsh lily, which blooms in summer with intense yellow flowers. A little later, you can enjoy the bellflower, which has small pink "bell-shaped" flowers.

Porcini and heath pipit

Mogölsåsen rises to the east of the reserve. From this height, you can see the vast marsh and Mogölens water mirror. Down on the bog, the air is dominated by the characteristic scent of the heather. Vast, untouched moorland is an important environment for our typical moorland birds. The heath pipit is an example of one of the more exclusive guests that visit Mogölsmyren.
