Description

The cultural reserve Mårtagården on the Onsala Peninsula consists of the two captain's farms Mårtagården and Apelhögen. The reserve also includes surrounding land and buildings. Here, a peephole is preserved into the seafaring culture of northern Halland, unique to the country, which was a mixture of agriculture and long-distance shipping. A nature and culture trail and exercise trails run through the area.

Knut Larsson, the last user of the farm, bequeathed Mårtagården and Apelhögen in Onsala in 1961 to a foundation that bears his and his wife's name: Knut and Tora Larsson's Mårtagården Foundation. It is still the foundation that manages the two farms with land. For information on guided tours and cultural events, visit Mårtagården's own website.
