Mannarp, Naturreservat
- Nature reserve
- County: Hallands län
Actions
Description
Mannarp is located just below the foot of Nyårsåsen. The reserve is 31 hectares and there is valuable pasture forest with large beech and oak trees. Adjacent to the reserve is a wetland where you can watch birds.
The bird tower is closed
The bird tower in Mannarp is closed because it is in too poor condition. There is currently no plan to renovate or replace it.
In the wooded pasture, or hagmarksskogen as you can also say, grow old, coarse and wide-crowned beech and oak trees. Several beech trees are very large, almost of giant dimensions. The old pasture trees are important for biodiversity. The trees are home to mosses, lichens and fungi, but also insects, bats and birds.
Beech and pine forests
The eastern and southern edges of the reserve do not have the same history of being grazed pasture. Instead, pine and beech forests grow here with elements of spruce. The pine is a few years old and some trees can rightly be called old pines.
Bird tower with a view of the wetland
Just outside the nature reserve is a wetland that has been constructed in several stages. The first steps were taken in the mid-1990s. Waders and ducks rest here in spring and fall. In late summer, skylarks can be seen hunting dragonflies and, at dusk, nightjars are sometimes seen on the roads. In some years, you can hear the spotted crake, corncrake and quail. The best way to experience the bird life of the wetland is from the bird tower in the reserve. A pair of binoculars is recommended if you want to check out all the ponds. There is backlighting from the bird tower during the afternoon and evening.
