Description
The Kattegatt Trail between Kungsbacka and Gothenburg offers beautiful nature experiences. Before you meet Gothenburg's bustling city life, you cycle along the sea among cliffs and marinas.
The Kattegatt Trail continues along Kungsbackafjorden. At the Boat and Maritime Museum, just below the church in Onsala, you can learn all about "Lasse i Gatan", the king's privateer Lars Gathenhielm, who was born in 1689.
In Särö, royalty and Gothenburg society enjoyed themselves during the last century. Take a detour to Särö Västerskog where you can walk along the sea. When you leave the seaside resort, you cycle on the old Säröbanan embankment that runs along the sea. Cliffs, lush forests, bays and marinas line your path and there are plenty of bathing spots.
Closer to Gothenburg, the trail passes Nya Varvet, the cliff's cultural reserve and Röda Stens Konsthall. At Järntorget you turn towards Gothenburg city, passing the picnic-friendly Kungsparken and Stora Teatern.
The last stretch goes along Trädgårdsföreningen, one of Europe's best-preserved 19th-century parks, before reaching the final destination at Drottningtroget at the Central Station.
