Description

The Kålabro nature reserve is located just north-east of Okome village. It is a large and varied area consisting of, among other things, hills with old beech forests, dense oak forests, swirling river stretches with alder forests and grazing cows in the pastures.

The pine forests, which are increasingly rare in Halland, are found here on both dry and wet ground and in the fall you can come here and pick berries and edible mushrooms. There are no marked trails, but in many areas you can walk freely in the forests with suitable shoes. If you continue east, you will also come to the adjacent nature reserve Skogen with more beautiful environments and peat remains.

A great variety of beech forest and deciduous swamp forest

The area's core value consists of beech forest and deciduous swamp forest with a large presence of old and dead trees. There are self-renewed pine forest environments, which are rapidly declining in Halland. There is both dry and moist land and a valuable stretch of river runs through the reserve, which is partly classified as a limnic key biotope.

Trails in the reserve

The wilderness trail is a trail that runs through Kålabro, Skogen, Bergs naturskog and Boa and in several private areas. It is a total of about 12 km but can be divided into two trail halves of 6 km each. Parking for those who want to walk on the trail is available in the Forest Nature Reserve, see directions under the heading "Find here" on the website about the Forest.

You can also drive past the Forest parking lot and there you take the next road to the left. Follow this to the end where there is a turnaround that you can stand at. It is important to keep well to the edges so that others can also turn around and get through. There is also a parking lot at Bergs naturskogs parking lot.

There is also a blue loop in the forest and into Kålabro which is 1.3 km.
