Hike in primeval forest
The trail is approximately 4 km long and starts at the Hembygdspark in Unnaryd, continuing through the Ödegärdet Nature Reserve. From there, the trail goes around the beautiful Kroksjön and passes the heritage site Brunnsbacka sawmill, a well-preserved industrial monument with a saw, mill, and planing machine. Ödegärdet Nature Reserve is a 24.5-hectare beech forest in Unnaryd with significant cultural and natural historical value.
Today, it feels like stepping into a primeval forest, but the area was used for farming for 2,000 years. More than 600 ancient stone cairns remain, marking the ancient agricultural landscape. For those interested in lichens and mosses, Ödegärdet is a paradise. Here, you can find common species like Xanthoria parietina (yellow lichen) and Cladonia cyanipes (blue-gray lichen), as well as rarities like Lobaria pulmonaria (lungwort lichen) and Lecidea auriculata (a species of lichen).
