Description

The Bockalt nature reserve consists of a small sand quarry that is now managed to benefit biodiversity. The sandy and flower-rich slopes are favorable for many endangered butterflies, wild bees and other insects. There are also plenty of Halland's landscape flower, hairstreak. The reserve is best visited during the summer when the flowers dress the area in different colors and the insect life is most active.

Some of the endangered butterflies in the area are completely dependent on the hairstreak, as their caterpillars only feed on this particular plant. To ensure that there is plenty of bare sand for foraging wild bees and other insects, the vegetation is scraped off in some places. The burning of the area in spring favors the hairgrass and many other plants that are important for the area's pollinators.

Visit the area when it is in bloom

If you want to visit the area during the flowering of the hairstreak, the first half of June is a good time. The slopes are also suitable for fitness training or sledging. There are no marked trails, but it is easy to get around on foot at the bottom of the reservoir.
