Torsburgenleden

The Torsburgen Trail stretches from the Mullvalds strandskog nature reserve in the south to Kräklingbo in the north. The trail is 17 kilometers long and runs through rich cultural landscapes, ancient monuments and exciting natural areas.

Along the way, both magnificent views and dense forest experiences are offered and the hike provides a journey through both older ways of life and more modern events and events that have characterized the land. The trail connects four nature reserves and is marked with orange ribbons or tiles. Along the route there are rest areas, barbecue areas, viewing towers and dry toilets. For those who want to hike further, the Torsburgen Trail connects to the 73-kilometer East Coast Trail at both the northern and southern ends.

Nature reserves

Torsburgen and Herrgårdsklint

Torsburgen is one of Gotland's most powerful inland cliffs. With an area of 1.2 square kilometers, the plateau is clearly visible in the landscape and has a highest peak of 71 meters above sea level. It is also home to Gotland's largest ancient castle, including a 2-kilometer-long stone wall that is up to 7 meters high in places.

In 1992, large parts of Torsburgen were hit by an extensive forest fire, which is still remembered today and which characterizes the flora that now grows in the fire-ravaged area.

Just south of Torsburgen, the Torsburgen Trail leads into the Herrgårdsklint nature reserve. A reserve with a large coniferous forest area and two distinct cliffs, Herrgårdsklint and Millklint. Herrgårdsklint also has an ancient castle bordered by natural cliffs and a 120 meter long stone wall.

Russvätar

The wetlands south of Herrgårdsklint form the Russvätar nature reserve. During the summer, the wetlands are often dry, but in the fall and winter they are usually filled with water. There is plenty of rock pine forest in the reserve, and in the spring there is a lot of Gotland plum growing here.

Mullvalds beach forest

At the southern end of the Torsburgen Trail is Mullvald's beach forest. There are both fine beaches and many shore plants, but also rugged areas such as Kungens sal. The lush spruce forest and the inland rauks form a magical environment that sparks the imagination. You can find your way to Kungens sal with the help of signs, a bit from Torsburgenleden.
