- County: Gotlands län
Actions
Description
Maldes nature reserve is located in the southern part of the relatively high and hilly landscape south of the Lojsta lakes and just west of the road between Stånga church and Lojsta castle.
The small reserve consists of old sparse and easy-to-hike pine forest with plenty of sunlit glades. Pine is the dominant tree species, and the pines are 120-200 years old. Many of them have armored bark and are sparsely branched. Here and there are some older, late-growing spruces. There are few deciduous trees. There is an abundance of standing and lying dead pine wood in the area. There are insect holes and paths on the dry trees, as well as woodpecker marks.
The field layer consists largely of grasses and flowering herbs such as yellow poppy, white poppy, colored poppy, breadfruit, wild strawberry, common bluebell, meadowfoam, curly-leaf pondweed, bloodroot, lily of the valley, solstice, thyme, thistle and goat's rue.
