Description
Sophiendal Glassworks was established in 1763 and the cobalt from Loosgruvan was used to color the glass. The glassblowers came from Ångermanland and blew window glass as well as bottles and jars. However, the supply of ore proved to be limited and the isolated location in Los created long and expensive transportation. As a result, mining and glassmaking ceased in 1773. The mine is located just outside the center of Los and is now a working life museum. The glassworks ruins are located in the forest far outside the village and a visit here is a combined natural and cultural experience.
There are parking facilities for a few cars. A simple path leads through the area.
