Description
Lugnsjön Nature Reserve is a lush natural area just a few kilometers from the center of Söderhamn. The shallow and nutritious bird lake is well visited, both for education and recreation. In the southern part of the reserve there are footpaths and cycle paths. There are also paths and trails.
Lake Lugn is nutrient-rich and therefore teeming with life. Lots of small aquatic animals such as insects, crustaceans, worms and spiders live in the lake to the delight of the fish and birds that eat them. Bring a net and plastic watering can or a pair of binoculars to get a good look at the aquatic animals. There are paths and a bird tower in the area. Birds such as Eurasian grebes, black-necked grebes, lapwings and brown ducks nest here. Red-legged partridge and water rail are also regular visitors to the lake.

Facts
If you want to see special plants, walk down from the cycle path and into the lush beach forest near the first bird tower. Most of northern Sweden's deciduous tree species are found here. In spring, the bluebell paints the hillside blue and the unusual woundwort has its northernmost habitat in Sweden here. Guess what this plant was used for in ancient times.
