Description
In the village of Stene in Järvsö parish, Kristofersgården is located - moved to the site in the early 1800s but with roots far back in time and used by the same family for at least 14 generations. Active farming and forestry with cows and sheep are practiced here, and modern functions coexist with cultural-historical values. The farm is named after Kristoffer Persson, who was a tax farmer during the time of Karl XI. Originally, the farm was built in the traditional Norrland way, but was adapted to more modern times in the late 1800s when the farmhouse was opened up and the fourth wing was moved a bit away.
Around what is now a three-building farmstead stands a residential building from the 1880s, an older gatehouse and a manor house crowned by three tall white chimneys. The building stock consists of a number of farm buildings, the latest addition being a modern detached barn carefully adapted to the cultural-historical environment. The manor house is decorated with murals and stencils painted by Ljusdal painter Anders Ädel in the mid-19th century. The exterior of the building is adorned with a typical järvsöbro branch. This house is part of the Hälsingegårdar World Heritage Site. In the portlider building there is a farmhand's cottage that was modernized in the 1940s and is used in the summer for "Living on Hälsingegård".
