Description

Hamra National Park is located in a rolling landscape of soft mountains in Gävleborg County. The national park is 1,383 hectares in size and consists of forest, mire and watercourses. Hamra National Park is best known for its forest. The oldest part of the national park is one of the few untouched forests in central Sweden. Many of the animals and plants of the primeval forest live in old and dead trees.

Almost half of the national park is a large contiguous bog complex consisting of marshes, streams, small ponds, swings and pine-covered islets. The large and unspoiled mire is popular with both birds and hikers. Svartån, which drains the marsh, has never been used for rafting, so the rocks remain scattered, providing good conditions for fish and small aquatic animals.

Regulations

The nature in Hamra National Park is open to you - take care of it. You protect it by following the rules for visiting the national park.

Full regulations on the right to travel and stay in the national park are available from the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency.

  • You may pick berries, flowers and edible mushrooms for your own use.
  • You may camp for two nights in the same place. However, not within the original national park. The tent must always be positioned so that it is not visible from the entrance areas or hiking trails.
  • You may only light fires in designated areas with firewood you have brought or provided.
  • You may only drive motorized vehicles on public roads.
  • You may not land with an aircraft. You need to apply for an exemption from the County Administrative Board of Gävleborg if you intend to land an aircraft in the national park.
  • You must not damage or take living or dead plants, mosses, lichens and trees.
  • Keep your dog on a leash.
  • You may only fish in Voxnan. A fishing license is required.

If you go outside marked hiking trails, you must be aware of the presence of gungfly on the mires. Gungfly is vegetation, which lies like a lure on a water surface so the water is not seen. If you walk on the gungfly, you can walk straight through and end up in the water.

Amazing area, magical. Especially the trail through the old forest starting at the main entrance. Everything good to do with dogs!
