Description

This is a two-day tour proposal with start and finish in Nysjöns fäbod. You can camp somewhere along the way or spend the night in the resting hut in Kurberget's shed. The tour describes the hike in counterclockwise turns, but it is of course equally possible to hike clockwise. The terrain is quite hilly and in places the paths are poorly trodden since the shepherding ceased in the shepherd's huts you pass. But we hope that the paths will soon be as well-trodden as before. So get out and enjoy!

Day 1: Nysjöns fäbod - Kurbergets fäbod

The trail between Nysjöns fäbod and Tulla is an old fäbodstig that was used by the maids when the animals went out into the woods, but it was also used extensively on Sundays after the "mood" when the fäbod litters had a few hours off. Then they gathered from Nysjön, Orrtjärn and Rotbodarna at a place near Övre Gammelbergstjärn called Tulla, where the paths met.

On the way to Tulla you pass between Gruvberget and Gammelberget and there is BackOlles botten. It is a coal bottom, which is the remains of an old coal mine. Before Allrik's hermitage at Söthålsån you can stop at Lushavet. A nice pond that is often dry during summer and fall.

In Tulla you turn left and continue west towards Orrtjärns fäbod. It first goes down a bit before you reach Stora Gammelbergstjärnen where you can take a cooling dip. The trail then continues along the lake and up a pine ridge before reaching the road between Lamborn and Svartnäs. Turn left and follow the road for a short distance before the trail turns down to the right.

The hike now continues through pine forests and along bogs before arriving at Orrtjärns fäbod. Halfway you pass the crossroads towards Gryfs fäbod, but continue straight ahead there. After Orrtjärns fäbod, it goes slightly uphill towards Hem i Ridge and when you have passed the highest point, you will soon arrive at Pilgrimsleden. Here you turn left and continue south towards Kurberget.

Pilgrimsleden was used for journeys to the Christian center of the Nordic region, Nidaros Cathedral in Trondheim, already in the 12th century. Later, it was used by traders from southern Norrland who brought goods to Kopparberget and Mälardalen. The route went through Dalarna, Hälsingland and Jämtland to Nidaros. It runs over the heights to make it easy to find your way, as there were no maps. The last few kilometers to Kurberget's shepherd's hut involve fairly easy walking in flat terrain. The trail passes briefly through the Spjärshällen nature reserve and here it slopes a little. Then it mostly slopes downhill to the sheepfold and the resting hut where you can spend the night.

Day 2: Kurberget - Nysjöns fäbod

After a night's hopefully restorative sleep, follow the trail east towards Alderbacka fäbod. In the shed you join Sommarvägen and from here it goes downhill to varying degrees to Örabäcken. Then it begins to rise gently towards the Kurbergsmyrarna nature reserve. Just before Kurbergsmyrarna, however, the trail splits and here you turn left towards Rotbodarna and Spjärsbodarna. If you want, you can first take a short turn down to the nature reserve and enjoy some of the old forest.

From Sommarvägen, the walk continues along Sommarvägen to Rotbodarna, or Rotboleden as it is also called. At Gräsbergstjärnen, however, it is time to turn off towards Spjärsbodarna. This is a brand new trail that connects the trails in Enviken with those in Linghed. It is well marked on the trees but still a bit untraveled. Here it is quite hilly in parts and on the slope down towards Spjärsen a bit rugged and rocky.

When you reach the Nysjöleden trail at Gullmyrvägen, turn left towards Spjärsbodarna, where you can take a break and enjoy the beautiful pasture environment. The trail then continues a bit along the road before turning right up the west side of Avelberget. After just over 2 km you come down to the road again and then you follow it for the kilometers until Nysjöns fäbod and the waiting car.
