Description
The meadow is one of Dalarna's most species-rich hay meadows and it has an ancient history. Today, only part of the once much larger meadow is used as hay meadow. The old Storängen meadow stretches from the Maypole site down to Siljan with a spur in the north towards Hotel Åkerblads. The upper part of the meadow today consists of lawn. Then follows a part that was previously pasture but has been converted to mechanical meadow management. Surrounded by a fence is the part of the meadow that was restored in 2004 and has since been used as a hay meadow. The meadow is home to a rare diversity of unusual plants, insects and fungi. Here you will find plants such as wild flax, sedge, meadow grass and red clover.
As of 2016, the meadow is mowed manually with a scythe. The freshly cut hay is then baled and wrapped and transported to Limsjön as feed for the animals there. Here old and new technology go hand in hand!
