Description
In the Stimmerbo hut area there are remains from 16th century iron production. Stimmerbo was originally called Stynberbodha. The ironworks and associated village emerged in the first half of the 16th century, and in the 17th century there were four farms in the village. Two hundred years later, fifteen miners, tenant farmers, crofters, craftsmen, workers and others lived here.
In 1873 the smelter was closed down and in the 1920s it was rebuilt as a lime kiln, the lime was used in agriculture. In the early 1900s the villagers supported themselves with forestry work, at the lime kiln, the sawmill, the mill and with rafting timber in the river.
In the cabin environment, which includes the saw, dam, mill, blast furnace / lime kiln, it is good to wander and you can get an idea of what it once looked like to produce iron in the 16th century and onwards.
There are good resting facilities for packed lunches.
Stimmerbo-Torrbo Bergsmansbyar is part of Ekomuseum Bergslagen.
