Sifferboberget-Skalsberget

The area is located on the southern side of Lake Gimmen. It consists of the Sifferboberget plateau and its eastern peak, Skalsberget.

Many different types of nature

The northern slope is covered with spruce forest and the ground is rich in large boulders. The eastern part consists of a mountain slope covered with pine forest in the upper parts, while the element of spruce increases down the slope. The average age of the forest is 150 years. The western part and the central parts, as well as a key biotope in the south, consist mainly of pine forest. The oldest trees there are around 170 years old.

The forest is largely unaffected by modern forestry, but is nevertheless very varied. However, there are some exceptions. Among other things, there are a couple of narrow parcels (100 meters wide) that have been used in recent times, some smaller areas that have been cut in the eastern part and a hygge of about 3 ha in the southeast. There are also two small wetlands in the area, together only about two hectares in size.

Outdoor recreation

Sifferboberget-Skalsberget is a scenic place. The proximity to several urban areas between Borlänge and Gagnef means that the area is important for outdoor life. At the top of Skalsberget there is a shelter with a fireplace.
