Description

Rots Skans was built in 1677 as a defense facility to protect against Norway, which was then under Danish rule. Skansen was active for about 9 years before the king ordered it to be closed down.

In 1911, the Elfdalen Local History Association was founded and in 1916 they began collecting buildings and objects. Today, the local history museum consists of 28 buildings and the collections contain about 8,000 objects and 200,000 pictures, films and sound recordings.

This makes it one of the larger local history museums in Dalarna.

During the summer, the local history museum, which is also an open-air museum, is open to visitors. There are regular guided tours, and it is also possible to book a guided tour of the local history museum.
