Djurarundan

Djurarundan is a proposal for a moderately hilly cycling route to experience villages and landscapes in southern Leksand municipality. There are no markings to follow.

Withsolsvarv you go out of Leksand over the bridge and then it goes along the bike path towards Häradsbygden. Where the bike path ends, you follow the old highway past Källberget and Yttermo. The road winds on over large open fields towards Mjälgen and here you can not avoid one of Leksand's largest "industries" of a fragrant kind - Leksandsbröd on the left. The villages of Gärde, Hagen, Smedby and Västannor follow, and the large red-painted farms are as dense as the villages. At Västannorstjärn there is a nice swimming spot.

Then follow a few kilometers through the forest and up to the right are mighty mountains and cliffs. The small nature reserve Djupbäcka may be a suitable resting place, where there is a hut with a view of Österdalälven. The next village is Söder Rälta and when the maypole is passed, you look out over Sjöbotten, a large open field and pasture area with many barns.

Continue south towards Djura and through the village where there are nice old farms along the road. At the T-junction next to the church turn left and then turn right down south towards the elongated village of Fors. At the end of the village turn right, west across the fields. Enjoy the vast open landscape and the fact that there are farmers who take care of it.

When you reach the slightly larger road, turn right north towards Djura again and aim for the church. Just after the church, turn left onto the cycle path that follows the field edge north towards Söder Rälta again.

From Rälta, the journey goes along Sjöbotten and past Norr Rälta, Jonheden and through Rältlindor. Further up past Hästberg and there it tips down again through Åkersbodarna and Heden. For the bathing enthusiast, there is the opportunity to swim in Styrsjön. From Heden, the bike path leads back to Leksand.
