Description

The museum, housed in the old vicarage from the 18th century, is based on the objects collected by Ottilia Adelborg and her friends from the days of peasant society.

Ottilia Adelborg, the author of the Swedish children's book, lived and worked in Gagnef from 1903 until her death in 1936. Ottilia was also passionate about preserving old traditions and crafts. She founded a lace-making school in 1903, and in 1909 Gagnef's Minnesstuga, one of Sweden's oldest homesteads, was opened.

The Ottilia Adelborg Museum was added in 1999 under its current name in Gamla Prostgården, Gagnef. Since 1991, there has been a lace exhibition at the same location. The collected lace contains a rich variety of the dalknypplingen used in Gagnefskläderna, Vadstenaspets and lace collected in different countries ex. Belgium, Italy and France.

In the summer of 2015, the new permanent exhibition opened on the ground floor and contains costumes, lace, artwork, objects, slideshows and a chronology of important events in Ottilia's life. Adjacent to this is a smaller room where the museum can hold temporary exhibitions and in the entrance there is a small museum shop.

All of this is on the ground floor and is accessible to the disabled. As of 2019, the Ottilia Adelborg Museum - non-profit organization, is open to those who want to support the work of developing the museum based on Ottilia Adelborg's life and cross-cultural work.
