Description

The year 1722 is the first time that Mörtbodarna is mentioned in writing, but there are theories that the site was already settled in the 17th century and that it was also used for permanent housing. At the time of the 1811-17 land consolidation, the farmstead had ten co-owners, mainly from Gröntuv and Tjärna, but also from Gräv and Moje.

Between 1840 and 1860 there were plenty of wolves and bears in the area. In the 1860s, a reindeer herder is said to have pursued a bear all the way from Idre to Sifferboskogen, where he caught up and killed the bear.

As late as 1933, eight farmers still had their cows on summer grazing at the pasture. At most, there were 35-40 cows, as well as some young cattle and goats.

Anna (1897-1983) and Erik (1897-1985) Dahström, who lived in Insjön but were born in Gröntuv, were the last to have cows at the Mört farm. They stopped herding in the mid-1950s.

In a cultural-historical environmental analysis, Mörtbodarna is described as an area of great cultural-historical and environmental value.
