Medskogshögen Rörbäcksnäs

A trip up Medskogshögen, the 'house mountain' in Rörbäcksnäs is a safe bet. Short and steep but well worth the effort. The trail starts below the mountain along the road towards Kroksätra and Elverum. You can park in several places nearby and a sign shows where the trail begins. The ascent begins immediately and you quickly make your way up along the easy path through tall pine forest. It is quite steep in places, but the trees are open. In sunny weather it becomes really beautiful when the sun shines among the trees. As you get higher up, the climb becomes steeper. The view is still obscured by all the trees but you can see how the path winds down. One last twist and you reach the top plateau which is covered in forest. A windfall is over the path just before the highest point but the worst has been cut away so the passage is easy.

One suggestion is to continue diagonally to the right in a southwesterly direction and up to the cliff edge that appears suddenly. Here you can literally sit and dangle your legs on the edge while enjoying the view. To the left you can see how a forest road winds its way through the savings forest up towards Ettertäkthögarna and straight ahead you can see the road towards Kroksätra with Aspberget and Risberget in the background. The lake to the right is Stora Dysjön where you can fish for both perch and pike. If you continue to the other edge, the view is perhaps even better, but it is important to find one of the excellent viewpoints between the trees. The view over Rörbäcksnäs and further towards Hundfjället and Granfjällsstöten is enormous. The sound of an occasional car on the road to Torgås or the bark of a dog occasionally breaks the silence. If you look closely, you can also make out Lilla Moberget's mountain huts in the distance.

When you have had your fill of the view, you return to the path again, which easily takes us the same way down. As a bonus, if we want to, we can cross the road and follow the path on the opposite side to Medskogstjärn, which is a few hundred meters away. This is also a good fishing area where you can catch both rainbow trout and perch.
