Description
Limsjön is a shallow and nutritious bird lake near the center of Leksand. A graveled hiking trail takes you around the lake and the bird life can be experienced from several bird towers and a hide. The trail has become a very popular hiking route both for birdwatching and exercise and you can get around with a stroller. More than 200 bird species have been recorded from the lake and the common gull is a characteristic species. Limsjön is also one of central Sweden's most important resting places for migrating waterfowl. There are also interesting things to experience for those interested in botany; in the right season, meadow lilies bloom in the pasture in the southeast. The area is protected as a Natura 2000 site.
As there are various stakeholders around the lake, it is important to show consideration, whether you are a hiker, farmer, golfer, cyclist or road user. Therefore, be careful not to step on the farmer's crops or disturb the herds of animals grazing in the lake. Leden är bitvis dåligt underhållen. Flera blöta, sanka avsnitt. Limtornet gick ej att komma ut till utan stövlar. Statoiltornet avstängt. Ser ut att vara på väg att välta. Spången ut till gömslet delvis under vatten. Det finns även en del nygjorda spångar, så ett visst underhåll sker.
