After the storm Johannes there are probably many trees over the trail or coming down over it. Be careful if you move in the area!

In the winter of 2025/2026, the pastures in Bensåsen will be expanded, which will affect Konnsjöleden. It will still be possible to walk through the pastures, but the work may affect accessibility. If you want to avoid the pastures, you can use the forest road that runs next to the new pastures.

Description

Konnsjöleden is a 4 km long trail between Konnsjön and Bensåsen, right in the border area between Avesta and Hedemora municipalities. After a few kilometers of hiking, you will find the popular destination Erkers-Fars ort or Morfars ort, an approximately 80 meter long mining site that you can enter. Remember to have good shoes and preferably a flashlight with you. There is also a picnic area with shelters and barbecue areas, right next to the small pond with the funny name Kamhavet.

The trail continues in a circular loop from the village up the mountain to the Bensås mine, with about ten mine holes. The mine is mentioned in the 1600s and some operations took place here until the 1930s. The trail continues from there to Bensåsen, which was settled by Finns in the early 1600s and the area is therefore usually called Södra Dalarnas finnbygd. In Bensåsen, the trail turns back towards Konnsjön.

For those who want to go for a longer hike, you can connect to the Bensåsen trail (about 20 km) towards Garpenberg.

Troll trail

After a part of Konnsjöleden, between Lilla Konnsjön and Kamhavet, there is a simpler Trollstig, which offers a bunch of mischievous trolls and some troll knowledge. There is room for more and everyone who wants is welcome to add trolls.

Hilly after Erkers-Fars Ort up towards Bensåsen.

Due to new clearings and insect infestations in the forest, trees occasionally fall across the trail. They are taken care of since, but there may be obstacles.

Parking is available in Konnsjön (follow blue signs from Konnsjövägen) or at Krokbäcksvägen. From Krokbäcksvägen it is only about 500 meters to Erkers-fars ort.

From Garpenberg, go towards Jälken. In Bensåsen take Bagghyttevägen and then Konnsjövägen. From Horndal, go towards Garpenberg. Take Bagghyttevägen, then Konnsjövägen. You can also take Konnsjövägen from Valla.
