Description

The Garpenberg limestone quarry offers a dramatic setting with high rock walls and mighty boulders. Here it is easy to see the traces of mining. Even today, the impressive lime kiln from the 1860s still stands. Some plants thrive particularly well in the limestone-rich soil.

Lime has been mined on the site since at least the 18th century, possibly even earlier. There are records of lime being brought here for the construction of the Gudsberga monastery as early as the end of the 15th century. Lime production ceased in 1910, but continued sporadically into the 1920s.

A bench table is available for those who want to rest here.
