Itjarberget

Mount Itjar holds a well-kept secret well worth visiting. On the top of the mountain, the real old-growth forest remains with rough and gnarled pines. The wilderness feeling is total. The strange thing is that the top is a bit reminiscent of a volcano with a depression in the middle. But in the "crater" there is no sulphurous smoke but a nice little open bog. On the old pines and occasional dead stumps, you can find unusual species that depend on old-growth forests and stable environments, such as twig lichen, pine thistle and wolf lichen.

The road up the mountain is steep, and it is clear that no forestry workers have managed to get up here. But the mountain has nevertheless served as a meeting place in the old days. This is evidenced by the old tree carvings carved into some of the pines near the highest point. Here, herders have carved their initials and marked how many times they have been there in a particular year.
