Description

Hike on historical trails to and from the deserted village of Ejheden.

The hiking trails between Hermansborg-Ejheden, Ejheden-Voxna Bruk are the old connecting trails that were used extensively during the 1800-1950s in a roadless landscape. These trails run through a cultivated forest landscape but also long parts are in natural forest. The trail between Hermansborg-Ejheden runs through a landscape of coarse blocky moraine, Ejheden - Voxna Bruk has more of a smoother character that is easier to walk. In the village of Ejheden there are cottages and a sauna with guided experiences available.

Ejheden is Ore Parish's youngest village, a Finn village about 3.5 miles north of Furudal in Dalarna.

Ejheden was populated in 1823 by descendants from Finland and Hälsingland. During the second half of the 1800s, there were at most 102 people living in the village spread over 8 farms.

The village was gradually depopulated after the Great Partition, and the last resident moved from Ejheden in 1965.

**Ejheden today

Today, Ejheden is owned by Sveaskog, which established Ejheden Ecopark in 2007. Ejheden is a 6,891-hectare ecopark in Rättvik in Dalarna, about 30 kilometers north of Furudal. The ecopark contains several large lakes and watercourses, including Storejen, Lillejen, Tansen, Storhåven and Snotten. The ecopark is characterized by the great forest fire that raged at the end of the 19th century.

Today, the cottages Jägmästaren and Skolan with associated boathouse are leased by The Mangevié. Also the fishing rights in Lillejen and part of Storejen. The remaining lakes there are fishing licenses to buy from Ore FVOF.

Fishing and hunting in the area has been mentioned in the media since the early 1900s for the good supply of fish and birds.

Sveaskog and Ovanåker Municipality have financed the restoration work.
