Description
Mining area at Stora Ålsjön, which you reach via Kärrgruvan and Nyberget.
The Nyberg field began to be mined in the 1600s and operations continued until 1965. From Nyberget, a narrow-gauge railway went via Kärrgruvan to Morgårdshammar where reloading to standard gauge railway took place and from where the ore was transported to mainly Avesta Ironworks.
In the area there are mine holes with scrap stone, grounds where the forest has reclaimed the land.
